Rt. Hon. Johnson Egwakhide Oghuma

Rt. Hon. Johnson Egwakhide Oghuma, member representing Etsako Federal Constituency, Edo State. Born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. John Oghuma Egiema of Iviavhe Quarters, Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria.

He had his formal education at the famous Obe Primary and the prestigious St. Johns Grammar School, both in Fugar where he was under the tutelage of the white missionary teachers and administrators.

For young Johnson Egwakhide Oghuma growing up was a struggle especially from the background of a polygamous family which was then and still remains an undying tradition in the Afemai land today, coupled with this was the loss of his mother at a tender age, and was the second child of the late mother.

Faced with these obvious early life challenges, Rt. Hon. Johnson Oghuma identified education as the panacea for addressing the economic misfortunes of the family and was convinced to diligently pursue education with all vigour and focus.

He gained admission to study Economics at the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma where he graduated in 1985 with a BSc. in Economics.

He was inducted officially to serve in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) immediately after his first degree and later passed out meritoriously.

In 1990, he proceeded for his post graduate study in Economics in the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos and graduated with a Master’s of Science (MSc.) in Economics.

As an Economist with great commitment and positive contribution to the professional body, he was awarded the certificate of a chattered Fellow of Economic of Nigeria (FCE) and many other awards between 2011 and 2013.

  1. Hon. Oghuma has been a profile and prudent economist, working in the private and public sectors of the national economy and rising to the position of General Manager, Okpella Cement Company.

He then decided to join partisan politics after being convinced that politics will provide veritable pedestal to manifest his inborn instincts of unrelenting charity to the less privileged.

Truly determined to serve the people, he contested in 2007 and won via a bye election to represent Etsako Central in Edo State House of Assembly. His first and second tenures in the House of Assembly were marked with selfless efforts to bring the gains of democracy to the people of his constituency. His many constituency projects remain unbeaten in Etsako Central Constituency till date.

The awesome manifest of his positive delivery of dividends of democracy to the people was the impetus for his choice as All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the 2017 bye election into the 8th Assembly House of Representatives. The election he won and was sworn in on 22nd February, 2017.

With his previous legislative and political experience, Rt. Hon. Oghuma hit the ground running by initiating Bills and Motions aimed at impacting positively on the lives of Nigerian in general and his constituents in particular.

Prominent among the Bills is the Bill for an Act to upgrade Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, to University of Technology, Auchi, which passed to the final stage but due to the end of the tenure of the 8th Assembly, there was no concurrence from the Senate, and he has since reintroduced the Bill for continuation in the 9th Assembly.

In the 8th Assembly, where he spent only two years, Rt. Hon. Oghuma in his dexterity attracted many constituency projects across the three Council Areas in Etsako Federal Constituency. He also sponsored many Women and Youths vocational training programs with Federal Agencies/Parastatals; and others, into pensionable employment in Federal Ministries and Agencies.

Flowing from the above therefore, it was no wonder that Rt. Hon. Oghuma was called back to service by winning the 2019 election into the House of Representatives for a second term which was inaugurated on the 11th of June, 2019. He has since reintroduced all his 8th Assembly Bills and also introduced other new Bills in the 9th Assembly.

Rt. Hon. Johnson Egwakhide Oghuma is currently the Chairman House Committee on Environment and member of other relevant committees of the House of Representatives, National Assembly.

Rt. Hon. Johnson Egwakhide Oghuma is an epitome of humility, charity and fortune. His unwavering conviction that politics is giving the best to the greatest number of persons from the common patrimony remains incontestable.

Rt. Hon. Johnson Egwakhide Oghuma is married and blessed with children. He is also a Christian and a Pastor of the Redeemed Church of God.
