SENATOR (DR.) DOMINGO ALABA OBENDE

Senator Domingo Obende was born unto the Royal Kingdom of Igarra in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria on the 5th December, 1954.
He is a Christian and he attended the following institutions: –

❖ Government Trade Centre (Now Federal Science and Technical College) Yaba, Lagos;
❖ University of Benin, Benin City,
❖ University of East London (Business School, London;
❖ St. Andrew University College – USA (Hnourary Causa Doctorate Degree);
❖ Atlantic International University (PhD in View)
Senator (Dr.) Domingo Obende is married to Dcns. Oluremi Domingo and are
blessed with Children and Grandchildren to the Glory of God.
Senator (Dr.) Domingo Obende is popularly known as (DD “One People One
Community”) in his immediate community of Edo State. He worked in the
following organizations before coming into politics: –
Berger Paints Plc – (He and Mark Okosun both won scholarship whilst in School in
1973 and he was then referred to as a “Luxol Child”; Harlem Int’l Ltd; Simme &
Co. Ltd; Nigeria Breweries Ltd; Federal Housing Authority;
He also served as The Chairman of Edo State Urban Water Board. He eventually
became the Executive Chairman of a very successful conglomerate namely: –

He joined the PDP when he made up his mind to start playing active role in
politics and he rose to become the Senatorial Chairman of PDP in the State
before he teamed up with some like minds in the opposition Party of AC which
later merged with other Political Parties to become APC.
Before the merger, Senator (Dr.) Domingo Obende was voted as Senator who
represented Edo North in 2011 – 2015. While in the Senate, he served as the Vice
Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Senate
Committee on Aviation ; Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs; Senate
Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs; Senate
Committee on Public Accounts; Senate Committee on Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs); Senate Committee on SURE-P and Member of ECOWAS
Parliament where he also served in the Committee on Custom, Trade and Free
Movement of Persons
In Parliamentary experience, Senator (Dr.) Domingo Obende sponsored 13 bills
and prominent amongst them is the “Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill 2011”
which was equally passed by both Houses and assented to by the President and
Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces ; 22 Motions and Motions were co
sponsored within the period in question.
Many special assignments and Courses were undertaken including Conferences
and Seminars too numerous to mention here.
