Rt. Hon. Peter Ohiozojeh Akpatason, mni

Biography

The Peter Ohiozojeh Akpatason mni, hails from Uneme-Nekhua, in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State Nigeria. Born in November, 1964, the young Peter was clear right from the outset about his mission on earth; to be a change agent.. Hence imbibed the culture of hard work, strength of character and determination not to only succeed in life, but excel. Had his elementary Education at Elafe Primary School Ugbola-Sale, now known as Ugboshi Afe, where very early on he began to show signs of intellectual potentials. He proceeded to Akoko-Edo Grammar School (Akograms) Uneme-Nekhua.

Thereafter, he headed to the College of Education Warri where he obtained National Certificate of Education in Economics, Government and Social Studies. Desirous of further self-improvemen, he again proceeded to Delta State University, Abraka, where he obtained a bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.

Peter Akpatason whose life is an embodiment of service immediately picked up teaching job at Ekakpramre Grammar School Ekakpramre and Warri City College, Warri, in the then Bendel State, now Delta State, where he thaught Economics, Government and Social Studies. In the process, he prepared hundreds of students for WAEC and JAMB examinations to give back to the society while others were searching for big time jobs. Today, most of those students are making the nation proud in their various fields of endeavours. He also had a stint with the Nigeria Supernumerary Police before proceeding to join Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 1990 where he held several positions and had the opportunity of obtaining a Higher National Diploma equivalent in Supply Chain Management at the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplies, London.

As a result of his voracious appetite for academic excellence, Peter Akpatason again embarked on another academic Odyssey to International Labour Organization (ILO) College, Turin, Italy, where he obtained a Diploma in Mediation and alternative dispute resolution. Peter Akpatason also studied Management and Strategic Leadership at the Institute of Management Studies, Romberg South Africa.

He was also in Cape Town University S.A; Thames Valley University, Slough, London. Memphis Tennessee U.S.A. The National Labour College, (George Meany Centre) Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. Sa ad Abubakar. He also attended a host of other short term conflict management courses too numerous to mention.

In his desire to ensure that workers in the Oil and Gas Industries enjoyed desirable conditions of service, he joined the workers union, NUPENG, where he rose to the exalted position of the National Trustee of the Union in charge of the assets and investments in 1998. In 2001 he contested against the then incumbent and won as the President of NUPENG. During his service as President, Peter awakened the fire of consciousness among members never to keep quiet in the face of repression and obnoxious industrial practices.

In 2007 he got involved partially in partisan politics through his unalloyed support for the candidacy of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole mni, who had the backing of the Nigerian Labour Congress and eventually became the Action Congress candidate. His support for Oshiomhole afforded him the opportunity to appreciate how much Akoko-Edo people needed him for political and economic emancipation. In 2011, after serving two consecutive terms as the President of NUPENG, He volunteered to contest for the Edo North Senatorial seat to enable him serve Afemai people by complementing the then Comrade Governor Adams Oshiomhole developmental strides. However, due to the respect for party supremacy, He was constrained to contest for the House of Representatives seat of Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency.
It is on record that due to the enviable records of performance and the backing of Afemai Leader and people, Peter Akpatason became the first Federal Legislator to serve three consecutive terms in Edo North, were, by the grace of God and the good will of Afemai Leaders and his people, he currently occupies the exhorted position of the Deputy House Leader, and Leader of South South Caucus.
