Dr Jafaru Momoh, MBBS, MSc, FWACP
Dr Jafaru Momoh, was born in Ibienafe, Etsako west, Edo State, in 1960, were he attended Primary School between 1966 and 1972.
He proceeded to Secondary school in 1973 at the St. Peter’s College, Agenebode in Etsako East from where he finished in 1977, as best Graduating student with Division One (I), in the West African School Certificate examination.
He was admitted to the University of Benin in 1979 from where he graduated with MBBS in 1985.
Dr Momoh worked as a Medical Officer in the new Federal Capital Territory till 1991 from where he proceeded for Specialist training at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH.
During the period of his Residency training Dr Momoh also undertook a Masters Degree programme in Clinical Pathology at the University of Lagos and was the best graduating student.
In November of 1995, Dr Momoh was offered a research attachment, on schorlarship at the Medical Research Council, Centre for Reproductive Medicine, University of Edinburgh at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. He subsequently obtained, the Fellowship of West African College of Physician Fellowship in Chemical Pathology, in October 1997.
He later transferred his services to the new National Hospital, Abuja (NHA) in April of year 2000.
At the National Hospital he was at various times, Head of Department of Chemical Pathology, the Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee and the Director of Clinical Services/Chairman Medical Adversary Committee.
He was appointed Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the National Hospital in July 2014 following a keen contest and reappointed to second a second and final tenure in July of 2018 on account of new innovations and outstanding performance.
As a Medical administrator he has brought about a significant paradigm shift at the NHA, in many specialties, using quality management systems and introducing the digital automation of the hospital clinical processes. He is the Current Chairman of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals.
He is married to his classmate in Medical School and they are blessed with four children.
